Important meeting for private well owners in the Santa Margarita groundwater basin

SLV Water District, Scotts Valley Water District, and Santa Cruz County are jointly taking the lead in development of the state-mandated sustainability plan for the Santa Margarita groundwater basin they share. On Wednesday Dec. 2, 2020, this Santa Margarita Groundwater Association, which includes two members representing private well owners in the basin, will be having a special meeting for private well owners to inform them about the status of the groundwater sustainability plan.

The staff have been modeling how pumping by private well owners relates to important indicators such as water quality and groundwater levels in aquifers, as well as possible benefits to private well owners from potential SMGWA projects. The role of private well owners has been a part of the discussion since SMGWA was created in 2017, including if fees would be applied and, if so, what those fees would be and who would pay them.

If you are a private well owner, this is your main chance to influence the process. The meeting will be conducted in a virtual format; details for this meeting will be posted at
